This porcupine is found in many Latin American countries such as Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and Honduras. They range in size from 20 to 30 inches with a tail that is roughly one third of their body length. Their bodies are covered generally in brown or black fur with yellow quills under their fur. 
South American Prehensile Tail Porcupine
These nocturnal animals are found in Brazil, Bolivia, and Venezuela. They live in the trees and use their tails to curl around the branches for balance. Their diet is primarily vegetation. These porcupines are protected from preditors with short quils that cover their bodies except for their tails.
